Hi Honeys! Ooo are you in for a treat today. Since launching this blog, I’ve mainly been featuring my high school and college friends in these Real Wedding posts, and therefore, most of the weddings have taken place in the Midwest (Central, IL., to be exact). Not that there’s anything wrong with the Midwest; I love it with all of my heart and it will always be home to me (and man does the Midwest know how to do weddings). BUT at the end of the day this isn’t a Midwest wedding blog and, well, should probably be a little more relevant to other peeps. So, I present to you, Honeysuckle’s very first Colorado Real Weddings post! YAY. So exciting! BUT IT GETS BETTER. I was actually at today’s Real Wedding as an assistant to Pink Diamond Events. I’ve been working as an assistant to the lovely Pink Diamond planners all wedding season and will share more about that later on, but enough about me, let’s meet Annessa and Sterling and hear about their love story and allllll about their perfect day!
Annessa and Sterling’s Love Story
Annessa – We met on Tinder! You know that “dating” app where you swipe right on someone if you “like” them. Well, after swiping right, we decided to meet for dinner at The Post Brewery. I walked in thinking Sterling was meeting me at the front of the restaurant. However, I ended up walking around the restaurant looking for some guy for what seemed like forever! My mind actually starting thinking this guy was probably sitting at a table with his buddies laughing as this girl walked around looking for her Tinder date. Needless to say I found him and we ended up going on several other dates.
Our second date consisted of bowling. Now for those that know me, you all know I was in a bowling league when I was younger. I wasn’t going to dare tell this guy in case I completely embarrassed myself! The date went well and basically….I smoked Sterling! I bowled a 182 and he will never let me live it down that I didn’t tell him of my bowling abilities. Let’s just say he hasn’t taken me bowling since!
Third date Sterling asked me to go hiking! Now at this moment I hadn’t been much of a “hiker”. But I was determined to tucker through because I was actually starting to like this guy! The hike wasn’t too bad until we started to descend. It was then I ended up twisting my foot! I hobbled down the mountain (super embarrassed) but tried to pretend it wasn’t that bad. Oh but it was! Sterling was so sweet though and cared for me even though I was in a ton of pain! He got us ice cream and iced my foot for me! (Sterling tried reassuring me my foot didn’t look “that bad” but I actually ended up fracturing it!).
So after a few more dates you can guess that the rest is history!
How Sterling Proposed
Sterling – We got engaged on the continental divide at her home mountain, Monarch Mountain. I somehow managed to invite her friends and family without her realizing what was going on (she’s bad at surprises). I also had it all planned out with one of our good friends to take pictures of the special moment.
After a frustratingly long amount of time on the bunny hill to get everyone acquainted with their ski’s (no snowboarders allowed), we finally began heading towards the top. Once at the top, we all posed for group pictures. Then I tried to get just a “couples picture” of her and I. I had told my friend with the camera this would be the moment. I double checked that the ring was in my pocket still.
I wanted everything to be perfect, however she refused to take off her ski’s and goggles and insisted that we all immediately head down the mountain–oblivious to the photographer, all her friends, and family intently watching what would happen next. I went ahead and dropped to a knee and she finally realized what was happening. She said “Yes!” and the rest is history. We all skied back down to meet all of our families and enjoy a great weekend filled with skiing, wine, and prime rib.
Wedding Day Details
Annessa – The one word that keeps coming to my mind when I think of our day is magical. My absolute favorite moment was our first look. I am so happy we did a first look. It felt great to see each other for the first time just the two of us (and our photographer). I think that made the moment more special and intimate!
Annessa’s Tips to Save
- We made all of our signage. I thought it would be great to have a few signs that we could end up keeping in our house as décor. It was a lot of work but in the end I loved how everything turned out.
- Our florist did all the bouquets, boutonniere, corsages and head table greenery. We were able to save by doing our own centerpieces and buying greenery to place around the venue.
