Gina and Jonathan’s Love Story

“We met on Hinge, but turns out, we went to the same high school! He was one year ahead of me, so I didn’t know him, but my sister-in-law saw his profile and recognized him. She said he was really nice and I should message him, but I tried making excuses as to why I wasn’t ready yet. I had just set up my profile and was only asking for her thoughts on my photo selections. After her repeated requests for me to send him something, I finally sent him a message to appease her: ‘Hey, whats up?’ Classic. We went on 5 dates in one week. Needless to say, the rest is history!”

Jonathan’s Surprise Proposal

“Before we left town to attend his cousins wedding, Jonathan told me he wanted to go somewhere nice for dinner when we returned on Sunday, so we’d have to take care of our chores before we left. (He knew I wouldn’t want to go out if laundry wasn’t done :)) We live in Little Italy (San Diego), so after flying home Sunday morning, we took naps (he paced around the house while I slept), and then we rode Bird scooters down to Seaport Village. We parked our scooters and then he grabbed my hand and said he wanted to walk along the water before dinner. At some point he started to slow down, so when I turned around to ask why he was slowing, he instantly dropped to his knee, and the photographers he conspired with came out of nowhere and captured the entire moment! I said YES (obviously), we took some photos, and then walked to Seasons 52 for dinner. The best surprise – he had his and my family waiting for us in one of the private dining rooms, so we got to celebrate with champagne toasts and the people we love most!”

Wedding Day Details

“We had our ceremony and reception at Green Acre at Campus Pointe. It’s a restaurant/venue space located in an office building, but not at all what you would picture – it’s like a hidden gem in San Diego. It’s garden, modern, rustic, and boho all at the same time – my vibe. They have awesome rooms for the bride and groom suites that we all got ready in. The guys had their space downstairs – pool table, arcade games, bar, etc. And the ladies had our space upstairs – floor to ceiling windows with allll the beautiful natural light flooding in, mimosa bar, etc.”

More Wedding Day Details

“We had our ceremony in the lawn area, with a solo guitarist playing, and my stepdad officiating our wedding. The cocktail hour was on the patio, followed by dinner under festoon lighting. The food was incredible – Chef Brian Malarkey really knows what he’s doing!

And our reception was the BEST party ever!! We had a 10 piece band, The Mighty Untouchables, rock the house all night! It was quite honestly the best day of my life. Surrounded by all my favorite people, dancing the night away!”

Gina’s Pro Planning Advice

“I would strongly encourage brides to hire a wedding coordinator – at least for the month of the wedding, if not the entire process. It helps having someone to rely on, even if you’re a perfectionist and super organized. It helps to pick out little things yourself, because you can find deals. The most important part is the photographer and videographer – don’t skip them! They’ll be the ones capturing every moment of your beautiful day so you can look back and remember the little things that may become a blur after it’s all said and done!”
