Michelle and Jen’s Love Story
“Our relationship has been one in which the phrase ‘we haven’t been there, let’s go’ is embraced. Last year, after one of these such occasions, we took the whole family up to Big Sur, California. We both agreed this was the perfect place for us to get married. We got engaged over wine and a game of Scrabble. After a brief side trip to the ER after accidentally ingesting mango (Jen is deathly allergic mango) in a fruit chutney we assumed was made of apricot…pure perfection.”
“We fell in love with Dawn Photo’s wedding photography. We reached out to her in hopes she would travel to Big Sur. Her schedule was quite booked, but fortunately for us she offered up some spots on the Oregon coast that would fulfill our vision of the perfect spot. We were both instantly drawn to the spots she sent and after realizing it was a short 12 hour car ride away, agreed that Secret Beach on the Oregon coast was the perfect spot for our wedding. After all, ‘we haven’t been there, so let’s go’.”
More Elopement Deets
“We decided on a small, intimate elopement and invited only our parents and of course Michelle’s two daughters (now my step daughters!). The spot couldn’t have been more perfect. A moderate hike down a sparsely traveled path, sliding down the face of a two story rock in wedding gowns, only to arrive at the most beautiful place we’d ever been. It was perfect! We had a sunset ceremony, reciting our vows out of leather bound journals we purchased for each other months before. With our closest family and the girls by our sides, everything was exactly as we both imagined it. That is, of course, until we realized we hadn’t decided who would say their vows first. But we settled that, the same way we settle most things in our home, a good old fashioned game of rock, paper, scissors.”
“The biggest piece of advice we can lend is to remember this is your day. This is the day you celebrate your love for each other and what that means to you as a couple. It isn’t about what friends or family might want this day to look like for you, but what you and your partner want this day to look like as a couple.”
